Food Insecurity May Increase Heart Disease Risk in Survivors of Childhood Blood Cancers
A study presented at the 2024 American Society of Hematology Annual Meeting & Exposition found that food insecurity is common among survivors of pediatric blood cancers and overlaps with risk factors for heart disease. Early identification and intervention for food insecurity could reduce heart disease risk and promote equity and survival. Previous studies show that childhood cancer survivors (CCS) face a higher risk of heart disease-related death than the general population.
